5/6/2023 0 Comments Ordinary world reviewI thought the movie looked interesting which is why I watched it. In all, I’d recommend to give it a watch, just have tempered expectations. The title says it all. And like I said, earlier, perhaps this was just formatted incorrectly and would have fared better as a television show. With better direction and a stronger script, there is room for Armstrong out there in something. And while this movie isn’t necessarily a homerun, it’s also not a disaster. Billie Joe Armstrong is an endearing performer. I’ve seen this stated in other reviews, but I must concur that I genuinely wanted to like this movie more. The culmination of the third act is anemic because the viewer never sees an on-screen transformation of the protagonist. Kirk cast one of the biggest names in punk rock from the Silver Age of the genre and totally neglected to to capitalize on the gravitas that a Billie Joe Armstrong could bring to the role. For example, he forgets to take out the trash and meet his visiting in-laws to let them in the house and shows up late for work. The only thing ever presented on screen is a guy who genuinely loves his family and is occasionally absented minded. The viewer is TOLD numerous times how wild and crazy he used to be, but we never once see it. Ultimately this is a coming-of-age story about a former punk rocker turning 40.
